POL:
Today's port of call was in Wellington, New Zealand. Wellington is referred to as Windy Wellington as the south end of the city has pretty strong prevailing winds. Hence the nickname Windy Wellington. There is a sign at the port that demonstrated the feeling.
Our excursion today was a tour of the surrounding Wellington area. We heard of some of the background of the ciy and some information on all of the stops that were made. We began the tour along the coastline. We were told that on a clear day we could actually see the south island, a mere twenty miles away. The rest of the days the south island would be shrouded in clouds. It was not a clear day.
We stopped at a few places along the coast taking in the scenery. We eventually stopped for lunch at a diner called the Spruce Goose. All eleven people in the tour ordered the fish and chips. I think the waitress thought that to be odd, but she laughed along with us. The lunch was good.
In addition to the stops along the coast were some stops at the top of some of the larger hills that surround the area. The views were impressive.
