Switzerland to Paris - September 29
Sunday, September 29
Today in Zurich was a pretty easy day. There was a boat tour of the waterfront and a walking tour of the old part of Zurich.
Our first tour was a boat tour of Lake Zurich. It was cold and windy. There wasn’t a lot to see from the lake as the boat never got close to the shoreline. So you got to see the city from a distance, but you could still make out some parts.
We then made our way into the older part of the city for a walking tour. Our tour guide seemed to be knowledgeable about the city. She was able to point out interesting things as well as historic points of interest. After the tour we were able to head out on our own for the rest of the day.
Since today was Sunday all the shops were closed. The churches, however, were open. At ten minutes before eleven o’clock the bells on one church started to ring to announce a Catholic mass was going to begin on the hour. We were about one quarter mile away from the church but you could hear the bells almost as loudly as if you were standing nearby.
I nearly go myself into trouble today. I saw a sign that read ‘AUSFAHRT’ and another that read ‘EXTRAFAHRT’. I, of course, had to giggle and make fart jokes. In German it really means some sort of ‘EXIT’. It still didn’t keep me from giggling.
We did manage to find a deli that was open. It was interesting in that once you placed your order and told the staff where you would be sitting a ROBOT would bring your lunch to you. Once you got all your order you pressed a button on the screen and the ROBOT ‘smiled’ at you and went away.
We found a decent Italian Restaurant for dinner. Afterward the four of us played a game of gin and then called it a day.
It was a fairly easy going day.
Tomorrow will be another adventure.
