Switzerland to Paris - October 2

Wednesday, October 2

Today we landed in Speyer, Germany.  Speyer is a smaller town of roughly thirty thousand citizens.  Like nearly every town in Germany it had at least one cathedral.  Speyer had four major churches.  All were beautiful.

One unique thing we saw was on the roof of one of the buildings.  It reminded us of our grandkids.  It was a UNICORN on top of the roof.

Our walking tour took us to only one of the churches, but never ventured inside.  Gigi and I snuck away from the group and went inside the church.  It was amazing.  We then rejoined the group and the tour guide was none the wiser.  He droned on and on about viking kings, then Martin Luther and his theses, and the infighting that had happened between the protestants and Catholics.

At one point the tour guide had stopped again and just pointed to another smaller church.  We wanted to get a closer look and maybe see inside.  So Gigi and I left the group again to see the church.  He saw us this time and admonished us for leaving the group.  But we ignored him and went on to see the church, both inside and out.

By the time he had hit his time limit we had only made it about half way through town.  When he left us Gigi and I made our way further into town where we saw two more magnificent cathedrals.

After we finished touring the town we headed to the Spreyer Tech Museum.  It was a museum dedicated mostly to transportation and how advances in technology brought about changes in transportation.  The had ‘Planes, Trains, and Automobiles’ plus scooters, motorcycles, trucks, spacecraft, boats, and submarines.  And to top it all off they had movie memorabilia, toys, and self playing organs.  Let’s just say they had a lot of stuff.

After touring the town and museum we headed back to the ship for a little relaxation before dinner and the remainder of the evening.  It was a day well spent.  Tomorrow we travel to Mainz, Germany.

Tomorrow will be another adventure.
