Turkiye and Greece - May 1, 2026
May 1, 2026
We had nothing planned today so we took the opportunity to sleep in. Of course that meant being up by eight o’clock. Nothing but some shops and restaurants were going to be open. So it was our opportunity to just wander around this end of town. It wasn’t until we were actually out wandering that we discovered how close we were to the historical sites like the Acropolis.
After breakfast we made our way down to the lobby and were a little surprised to see that the hotel had lowered their outer shutters. I am sure they did this as a precaution, just in case the ‘Labor Day’ demonstrations got out of hand. There were throngs of people. Loudspeakers had been installed so you could hear the speeches even though you weren’t close to the speaker. During the morning we could hear them from over half a mile away.

We decided we would make our way across town to get a picture of the back of the Acropolis. From this angle you could make out some columns that were carved on the face of the cliff at the far end. You would need to zoom in pretty far to see them clearly.
On our journey we came across another structure. But since it was a holiday the gates were all locked. We did manage to get a picture from the fence. It was the Temple of Hephaestus. Even from a distance it was impressive.
All said, today was a pretty relaxing day. The temperature has dropped by about twenty degrees so it is rather cool. But we just had to layer up and go about our business.
Flat Lizzy also took the opportunity to sleep in. I’m sure she gets tired being carried around in my backpack all day.
She liked seeing the Acropolis from a distance. She could still make out the Parthenon, the Temple of Athena, and the Temple of Nike.
Flat Lizzy was also impressed with the Temple of Hephaestus.
We will make our way to Delphi in the morning.
Tomorrow will be another adventure.
