Canada to Florida - October 2026

Canada to Florida, October 4, 2026

Gigi and Bearpaw are heading out on a new adventure.  This trip will take us to Montreal, Quebec City, Saguenay, Charlottetown (Prince Edward Island), St. John (New Brunswick), and the Nova Scotia coast in Canada  We will then sail down the  east coast to Eastport, Maine, Boston, Massachusetts, Newport, Rhoade Island, and eventually to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.  The entire voyage will take about two weeks.

We are traveling this time with Wilma and Leonard.

Today was day one of out adventure.  We were wondering if today was even going to happen as the line to check bags at KCI airport took about forty minutes to traverse.  By the time bags were checked and we made it through “Checkpoint Charlie” (the TSA security checks) we were very close to our boarding time, which was supposed to be at 5:20 this morning.  We got to the gate around 5:15 only to find out that boarding group FIVE had been called.  Within a minute or two boarding groups SIX, SEVEN, and EIGHT were called.  We were in boarding group THREE.  We hurriedly made our way onto the aircraft only to discover that the plane was less than half full.  We could each have our own row if we wanted to move.

We left KCI fifteen minutes early as everyone was checked in and aboard.  The pilot must have been in a hurry because we made it to New York forty-five minutes earlier than scheduled.  So instead of a two hour layover it was more like two-and-a-half hours.

Our second flight from New York to Montreal was less than an hour.  Since we were not in ‘first class’ there was no snacks and no drink service.  It’s a good thing we had leftover snacks from earlier in the day and a drink from the airport so we really did not miss anything.

Once in Montreal we hopped on the Viking shuttle and were taken to our hotel.  This is what the hotel looks like from the street.  I think we can see our room from here.  We checked in, dropped off our luggage and found a place to have dinner. We ate at Les Brasseurs de Montreal.  We had BBQ ribs with french fries, sausages with grilled onions, and poutines (loaded french fries with gravy).  All were good, especially since we had been up since 3:30 AM.

Our plans for tomorrow are to explore the city via a Hop On – Hop Off bus.

Tomorrow will be another adventure.
