New Zealand - Feb 26

POL:

Our first port of call was in Tauranga, New Zealand.  We took a bus trip inland to Rotoura to see a geothermal area called Hell’s Gate.  Hell’s Gate was a boiling cauldron of super heated water.  Some of the pools were close to sulfuic acid where some of them could a lot less dangerous.  The entire area smelled of sulfer.  The local company that ran the place would scrape some of the mud away and sell it.  There was even a place where you could take a mud bath and / or soak in the invigerating waters.  At the back of the area was a small nature walk that led to a waterfall.  Where the geothermal area did not in the least compare with Yellowstone, the walk was interesting.

Once back in the cruise port Robin, Ginny, Bob, and I decided to take a walk around the hill right outside the port.  The pathway around the hill was about 3 kilometers long.  Robin took the opportunity to dip her feet into another ocean.  It was a fairly easy walk, but we were tired by the time we got back.  It was still fun.

We had dinner in the dining room.  Dinner was Spiced Pork Belly, Chicken Parmegean, Lobster, and Spiced Shrimp.  Desert was hot fudge sundae, chocolate whiskey torte, and red velvet cake.  Yum!

Then it was time to call it a day.
