Austrailia - Mar 12 - Cairnes

Mar 12 - Cairnes, Austrailia

There is an update from last night.  The really nice room we had was right over a couple of bars on the street below.  Literally right above the bars.  When we queried the front desk as to how late in the evening the music would run they responded with 11:30 to midnight or later.  After speaking of our displeasure they offered to have us change rooms.  The new room is not nearly as nice as the one last night.  The air conditioning never really keeps up.  The beds (two queens instead of one king) lean toward the center of the room.  There is a tub / shower, that is starting to grow mildew, instead of a walk in shower.  The sofa that is in the room is stained enough that I would be embarrassed to have it in my home.  It has a better view as it overlooks the marina, but that in itself would not be a big deal as we are not in our room enough to enjoy the view.  We packed in such a hurry for the move that we are still looking for stuff through our suitcases.  On the plus side ... I'm not sure there is a plus side ... so moving on:

POL:
We spent today in Cairnes.  We had an excursion on the Karunda Railway to see the rain forest.  The train ride was long and hot, but the views were good and we got to travel through one end of a much larger rain forest.
At the top of the mountain were some animal exibits.  We went through the Koala exhibit.  They had a number of Koala bears as well as a number of smaller kangaroos.
At a designated time we traveled back down the mountain in a gondala or sky ride.  The ride went smoothly.
Once back down the mountain it was a short 30 minute bus ride back to town.  After dinner we went for a swim in the hotel's pool and called it a day.

Tomorrow is another day for adventure.
