Mar 13 - Great Barrier Reef
POL:
Today's adventure was a trip to the Great Barrier Reef. We began our day at Green Island, which is a 'resort' island. There is a small hotel and some shops. We skipped all of that and went directly to the beach to snorkel. Where the snorkeling here was just so so, it gave us practice taking pictures and videos with our cell phone cameras. I must admit that I still need a LOT more practice. I did however, manage to get one or two decent photos during the day. Another interesting part of the day was the lycra suits we wore. They were to keep us from getting stung my the small jellies (jelly fishes) that were very abundant across the Great Barrier Reef. So except for a small portion of your face you could be completely covered. Bonus: no sunburn!

After our adventure at Green Island we moved on to the outer reef. The excursion company had a large pontoon platform set up so you could go snorkeling or just sit and relax. They also had a semi submersible submarine where you could see the reef without having to get into the water. We saw lots and lots of fishes. Unfortunately NONE of them were generally in front of the camera when we would try to get their picture. Gigi did manage to capture a few on video.
After the trip back to Cairnes we had dinner and ice cream (we're on vacation!) and called it an evening.
Tomorrow is another adventure.
