Antarctica - Dec 13th and 14th

Antarctica – Wednesday, December 13th & Thursday, December 14th

Wednesday was an at sea day.  We finished the transit of the Drake Passage and began our trip through the Beagle Channel.  Both were uneventful.  It would appear as though we got well ahead of the storm.  The cruise director told us that he had communicated with a couple of other cruise ships that did not get an early start.  They were going to find a safe harbor and ride out the storm rather than navigate the Drake Passage.  They were going to be delayed three days  We pulled back into Ushuaia late in the evening.

This morning we headed out on our last excursion.  It was a bus trip to see a couple of area lakes the local community considered noteworthy.

Hidden lake was viewable from a lookout point that just happened to be just beyond the pass where one could navigate from one side of the Andes to the other.  It confused me though because if it was hidden then how would we be able to find it?

The other lake was Lake Fagnand, which was said to be the fifth largest lake in Argentina.

Both lakes were very picturesque and worth the bus ride there.  After the lakes we began the journey back to town.  On the way we stopped at a place along the way for lunch.  They were cooking lamb on stakes around a big fire.  It was very good.

Once back at the port we wandered around town for a while and then made our way back to the ship.  We spent the rest of the evening packing and getting ready for a travel day.

Tomorrow will be another adventure.
