Switzerland to Paris - 2024 - Sept 23 - Sept 26
Gigi and Bearpaw have headed out on a new adventure. This trip will take us to Switzerland, Germany, Luxembourg, and France.
Monday, Sept 23rd - We left home on this day. After a quick breakfast with Wilma and Leonard we made our way to the airport (thanks W & L). Once we checked in and gave up our luggage we passed through Checkpoint Charlie with no issue. Once the two plus wait time was complete we boarded our Bombardier CRJ900 jet and flew to JFK airport in New York. The CRJ900 sat only 76 passengers, two pilots, and two flight attendants. It was a very small plane compared to what we have been used to. I noticed that the flight attendants were both very slender. They had to be since the aisles were very narrow.
We had only a four hour layover in JFK. We boarded the plane and in a short time we were airborne. They fed us dinner and snacks and away we went. We left JFK around ten PM on Monday. We arrived in Geneva, Switzerland around ten AM on Tuesday, just over seven hours later. Our luggage made it there as well.
Then came the surprise. The President of Cameroon claimed to be ‘ill’ and needed to stay in Geneva for a few more days. So since the president was more important than Viking Cruise customers we were moved from the Hotel Intercontinental to the President Hotel (named for President Woodrow Wilson). This move ended up being a good thing as we were now closer to the downtown area.
We spent the rest of the day getting acquainted with the downtown area and took a couple of walks along the shore of Lake Geneva.
Wednesday, Sept 25
Today was an easy day. We had a tour of Geneva. We went by the United Nations headquarters. We also toured old town Geneva, which was over seven hundred years old, and took a boat tour around Lake Geneva. All pretty interesting.
We also managed to find a local McDonald’s. Their interesting meal was Crispy Chicken Wings. They were not boneless, but were bone in. We also ordered a pink, heart-shaped donut that was filled with cherry pie filling. Very good.
After all the tours we had a quick dinner and called it a day.
Thursday, Sept 26
Today we made our way by bus and then by train to Zermatt, Switzerland. Zermatt is on the way to see the Matterhorn. We are going to take a cog railway tomorrow to try to see this mountain. We had a very light lunch at a winery on the way today then continued on to Zermatt.
Tomorrow will be another adventure.
