Switzerland to Paris - September 28
Saturday, September 28
Today has been a rainy day. The silver lining is that this is a travel day. We rose at about the usual time and as requested had our luggage outside the door of our hotel room to enable the hotel staff to move it to a staging area to be moved to our next destination. Afterward we had a quick breakfast and were ready to go.
On the way through town toward the train station we thought it necessary to stop by a local bakery for a treat. To celebrate Switzerland having black nosed sheep we got a couple of ‘black nose sheep’ cookies. They were quite good.
We boarded a train for the first leg of our journey. This first leg took about an hour. We then boarded a second train and after another thirty minutes we arrived in Spiez, Switzerland. In Spiez we had lunch at the historic Belvedere Hotel. The lunch was Beef Stroganoff. Lunch was very good. The view of the local lake was nice although it would have been better without the rain.
From Spiez we then made our way by bus to make a quick stop in Lucerne, Switzerland where we had a quick walking tour. Where this stop and tour was not included in the itinerary the stop was made since it was “on the way and should not be missed”. In the older part of town some of the buildings were from the 1300’s. One of the more magnificent parts of the town was the Chapel Bridge, which is a covered wooden bridge dating back to the 1300’s as well. While the bridge was nearly destroyed by fire in 1993 it was rebuilt to nearly its original condition.
Then it was back on the bus again to head to Zurich, Switzerland. We were then able to meet up with Wilma and Leonard who were taking an initial trip through Milan, Italy to join up with the cruise group in Zurich.
All in all today was a pretty easy day.
Tomorrow will be another adventure.
